Cisco 9500-40x - Today I implemented Stackwise-Virtual (Fuji 16.8.x)

To All,

I took one for the team today. ;)

I'm going live soon with 3 new hospitals running dual 9500-40x switches as our core routers to run the infrastructure. Originally we planned on using Stackwise-Virtual (vsl) but the code did not support it when the switches arrived 2 months ago.

So I cried a bit and implemented HSRP, racked everything in, setup dual links to the closet switches, and was moving on with life...

Then last week our Cisco rep let us know that Fuji 16.8.x was released with Stackwise support. Ooh!

So this was a tough choice. Early buggy code vs the ability to implement Stackwise now. So I took one for the team and implemented it.

I'm sure we'll get burned with some type of crash or something in the next few days/weeks, so I'll let you guys know what I come across.

So far the only thing I've seen is the dual-active link is going into err-disabled state. Not sure why.. maybe it doesn't like the 10gig gbic? I have to read up on it tonight to see whats up with it.

The conversion process was easy.. 1 min for the boot update, typical reboot into new code was fast (typical 4 mins), setting up the links and Stackwise took like a minute. Then another 4 min reboot and she was alive.

Now I just need to go through like 100+ vlans and remove hsrp stuff.

Wish me luck!
