Currently working in a NOC, and would like to take on some extra networking duties since I'm 3rd shift and bored. What would you recommend I ask for?

Would love to get onto the network team as my next jump.
Currently persuing a degree in Network Operations and Security and working towards the usual certs.
The vast majority of my night is downtime, and I've been given the OK to use a lot of that for school stuff which is awesome, but I'd like to ask to try and do some lower-level, hands-on networking stuff if the network team will let me.

What would you guys recommend that I ask for? what would be something your typical entry-level networking guy would handle?
