48-Port Patch Panels into 48-Port, half POE switches. Odds/Evens split for PoE, no cable management bars... looking for cabling tips.

I'm in the process of upgrading our infrastructure.

Budget has us purchasing 48-port switches with the first 24 being PoE+

We're wanting to Odds/Evens the PoE into the patch panel, and the combinations I've tried have been a little bit of a mess.

The cabinets are already in place, and don't have cable management bars, only alternating Patch Panels with Switches.

I've got an assortment of 0.25mtr & 0.5mtr red and black patch cables, but going shorts first and then longs still looks messy.

Any tips? I can tidy & bunch the longer cables up with cable ties, but I'd just like to make sure we're as tidy as possible with what we have.

Question About EVE-NE

Greetings, So I wanted to start using EVE-NE for labs, I did the setup like shown below: - Downloaded ISO from their website - installed it in a VMware workstation successfully - Updated/Upgraded the software - I got the IP address and all seems to be ok, I can even ping the internet from the VM

My issue is that I cannot access the web! I tried different solutions but nothing worked.

When I type the IP address in a web browser it simply says “site can’t be reached. Err_connection_timed_out.”

Does anyone know what the issue is?

So i was wondering, how do ISPs connect the fiber/coaxial/copper line from your home or flat to their specific infrastructure? what i mean is that there are ofcourse competing ISPs, so when a resident or company switches ISPs, does an ISP let a worker comeover next to your flat/home and let him or her unplug the connection from the competing ISP's cabinet and connect it to their cabinet (i doubt this because of security), and also does it then mean that we a complicated HFC/PON infrastructure of the competing ISPs in a close proximity of eachtother under the grounds?

Robustel R2000-4L - Bricked?

Hey all,

I’ve got a Robustel R2000-4L as the title suggests, a 4G industrial modem/router for IOT appliances etc etc. it’s an old unit from one of our other work sites - they advised there was a potential issue with it but couldn’t recall what was wrong...

Fast forward to today and I have the unit. Had it plugged in most the day without any issues then out of the blue it stopped working. Select status lights remain lit, and the link-state light on the ETH1 port remains lit. No activity lights on either port when plugging into it, nor any traffic on the port when examining with Wireshark. Rebooted many times and the lights stay the same - I had factory reset it earlier in the day without any issue, but now I can’t even get it to do that - as soon as I power it up, it goes back to those same lights being on and unchanging.

Anybody got any experience with these devices to share some insight?

How to check reliability of Ethernet connection between an Intel NUC and ARM cortex-M micro controller ?

I am actually building a robotic system . Where I delegate lower control tasks to a MCU and upper stack processing like State estimation , Perception ,Path planning to an onboard computer (Intel NUC). I am currently researching on ways in which failure can occur in the system . One aspect is communication between MCU and OBC. I will be connecting both using a Ethernet line routed by a router. I would like to come up with checking routines to see if the connection between MCU and Intel NUC is reliable . I have thought of below 2 routines. I am looking for more suggestions apart from this

1. Periodic ACK between OBC and MCU
2. SHA256 for data integrity check .

Is there anything else, I can add to the list ?

question about patch panels

So I have done patch panels in the past and will be working on a much bigger project soon with a few hundred drops. I know for keystone jacks there are tools like the rapid-jack for terminating all the strands at the same time, but is there anything like that for a patch panel or something like this monoprice biscuit jack? Just looking for some ideas or direction to any possible ways to speed up some of my work besides swapping the traditional patch panels to pass-through panels or the panels that use snap-in keystones as they are much more expensive.

Juniper virtual switch for labbing

Hi,

I have nearly zero knowledge of Juniper gear and would like to get something going in EVE-NG. I only need layer 2 right now, can anyone suggest the correct KVM image? Googling around did not give me much clear info on what is what, but I am leaning towards vQFX. Thanks.

Recommendations for a Layer-1 switch with support for multiple 100Gbps QSFP28 and/or 400Gbps QSFP-DD ports

I'm looking to purchase a few Layer-1 switches to share some high density ports in a lab environment. This is mainly for 100G or 400G ports. Nothing fancy in terms of features; just be able to create a switch pair and maybe the ability to save and load configs.

Searching online I found Coldfusion (12RU chassis only option, was hoping for something smaller), Exablaze Hydra(now Cisco) but limited to 40Gb.

Can you suggest some others that are tried and tested? If possible mention approx cost.
