Subnetting question

Hi all,

Networking is not my strongest area...

We have 3 branches

Branch A = 172.16.2.0/23

Branch B = 172.16.4.0/24

Branch C = 172.16.6.0/23

​

In branch C I would like to create new subnets (172.16.8.0/24 & 172.16.9.0/24)

What is the best option for this? I first looked at just making Branch C 172.16.6.0/22 but that makes the range 172.16.4.0-172.16.7.255 and I can't do that as Branch B overlaps.

So I thought maybe just add 2 new /24 subnets as mentioned above but I am just stuck, not sure it would even work. I've played around in my router at adding a new LAN but not wanting to disrupt the live network. My router is a Draytek, under the LAN profile there is a section called More Subnet. I added 172.16.8.0/24 in this and statically assigned a laptop with this and i could ping from the laptop to Branch C but not Branch C to laptop.

I'm way over my head right now, everything I have learnt years ago has disappeared and I'm feeling pretty low I can't work out something that shouldn't be too hard I don't think?!

FTD2130 VS fortigate 300 D vs palo alto 3220

Currently we're Migrate our network to new one. we've currently 2 firewalls one at edge is cisco firepower and one at DC is fortigate. we're in comparison between firepower ftd 2130 and fortigate 300 D and palo alto 3220 . which is best for edge and which is best for DC with expecting B.W at dc not more than 2 G, and we also about to bu ISE server thats why we go for Cisco FTD2130 on edge to terminate vpn and interface with ise . budget is around 100K$ for 6 firewalls 2 at edge,2 at dc , 2 at DR , any suggestion please.

some noob in networking planning a wisp

im planning my first wisp im not an expert in networking so i have doubts.

im going to have about 60 customers in one access point, and im going to get a 1gbps fiber to the ap. i will be using a rocket prism ac at 5ghz and about 50mhz. my doubts are about VLANs, NATs, switches and all that stuff. the problem is that idk how all that stuff works so it would be cool if someone would expain me how to use it and whats the better option/cofiguration. idk if this is the right place. thank you

Can't seem to get SFP to work on my switches.

I have a TP-Link T1600G-52PS in my MDF location that I'm trying to connect to a TP-Link JetStream T2600G-28MPS in an IDF location via SFP. I'm using these TRENDnet SFP Modules at each location. The IDF is connected to the MDF with multimode OM3 fiber, and I'm using these patch cables to connect the fiber housing in the cabinet.

Backstory, I've had an awful time getting these all connected. I've resorted to using fiber converters at each IDF, but I really need to get these hooked up via SFP if possible. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I've also tried these patch cables and had no luck.

Any advice you guys can give me would be super appreciated!

Our DHCP sometimes does not receive requestpacket from client

So, we have had this problem for a while now.

Sometimes the DHCP does not receive the requestpacket from a client when the client is trying to get an IP-address.

The reason why we haven't found a solution is because this only happens sometimes. Most of the time the clients get their IP-addresses just fine.

The problem can persist for a single client for 15 minutes to 1 week, it is completely random. This has to be a networking issue.

Have any of you had any similar problems before?

Can anyone recommend a t-mobile sim compatible wired backup solution?

I want to use cellular as a backup in a network with an edgerouter. I was looking for a wired solution to use another port on the edgerouter to get cellular as a failover / backup solution in-case the main service goes down.

I know there are many wireless routers that can use a LTE dongle but I don't want to keep the edgerouter as the main routing device in this case.

Broadcast storm like symptoms on network

Hi guys,

I'm getting a weird issue with our network. We look to be getting broadcast storm symptoms but not actually getting the results of a broadcast storm. All the switches are blinking in sync with one another, but we get no network slow downs or outages.

I've had wireshark running for about 10 minutes to pull some info. Is there anything I should be looking out for? or stuff I can trim from the wireshark display to help narrow down.

I am no network wiz so please go easy on me.

Anyone used the Ubiquiti US-16-XG 16-port 10G Switch?

I've used their wifi stuff before and it's gotten much better over the last couple of years but I can't see a 10G SFP+ 16-port switch going for under $1500... At this price I'm seriously tempted to try it at home.

pfSense 2.4.3_1 KVM guest, ping timeout

I installed my first pfSense VM yesterday on a CentOS box. I gave it all 4 cores and 2 gigs of RAM. Disabled Checksum Offloading as per virtio's requirements, rebooted, and the internet worked great. I've noticed though that the internet had intermittent slowdowns. By chance my ping window was open and it showed me the cause: ping timeout. Just to make sure it wasn't a wifi issue, I pinged the next door AP as well (was connected via 5 GHz no noise). Result: AP ping is continuous, no fluctuation, and pfSense has constant timeouts. It seems that ~80-100 ping responses come without problems and then I have 10 timeouts (on OS X mind you, not windows; that would probably be two or three timeouts max).

I've been looking around as to what the issue can be but all I've found so far is the virtio issue requiring that one checkmark.

On the VM, I've passed all four ports on an Intel GbE quad port NIC. Other than start VM on boot I've made no special changes to the VM properties. It's also an old machine so no UEFI, just BIOS. Any ideas?
