Hi. I am looking for some help.
I have an xfinity wireless router/cable modem combo (Cisco DPC3941T) that is on the first floor of my house. The main coaxial cable from the outside the house actually enters in the basement and is run up to the first floor through the wall.
All my rooms have ethernet jacks in the wall and the house is hardwired with cat6 cabling.
All of those ethernet jacks in the house terminate in the basement where the coaxial cable enters the house.
I wanted all my ethernet jacks to work to connect to the internet, so I bought a NETGEAR - 16-Port 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Unmanaged Switch (Model: GS116NA).
From the ethernet port #1 on the back of my xfinity gateway on the first floor, I connected an ethernet cable to the nearest ethernet wall jack.
Then, I plugged all the terminated cables in to the network switch in the basement. Is this all I need to do to get all the ethernet jacks working in the house? Any configuration settings? I ask because it doesn’t work.
Thanks!
